Vermont Scenery--for Grandpa and Grandma

...and all you other Vermont scenery lovers out there. This is a compilation of pictures from some of my mountain hiking adventures, including Mount Mansfield, Camel's Hump, and Mount Madison. There are even some pictures of Mallets Bay on Lake Champlain.

All pictures are thumbnails. Click on them if you want to see a bigger and better picture, under 60k.

Every Wednesday at 5:30 am, a group of people from my area at work go hiking up Camel's Hump mountain in Vermont. The goal is to get to the top and back with enough time to return to work without anyone noticing we were ever gone. Our record to date is 1 hour, 30 minutes from base to peak. This picture was taken at 6:08 am, showing the sunrise through the trees. Yes, we usually use flashlights to begin with!

There are always interesting plants and moss growing up on the mountains. Sometimes you'll even get lucky enough to see standing snow on October 10th!

At the peak of Camel's Hump, the altitude is 4,083 ft above sea level, and you can see mountain peaks for miles around. Just as curious is the alpine grasses, which turned red before any of the trees did this fall.

You can even find some interesting animals, like glow-in-the-dark salamanders, up on the mountain. I have yet to see a moose, though. After many different adventures on many different trails, the best I've done is day-old moose tracks. Someday I'll see one, I promise.

This is the fall colors from a point 0.2 miles from the top of Camel's Hump.

My most favorite picture from the mountain was taken on a cloudy day, while walking down a different trail that we usually take. I saw the rays of sun slipping through the clouds, and just had to stop and snap this picture of the Green Mountains.
