Vermont Scenery 2--for Grandpa and Grandma

...and all you other Vermont scenery lovers out there. This is a compilation of pictures from some of my mountain hiking adventures, including Mount Mansfield, Camel's Hump, and Mount Madison. There are even some pictures of Mallets Bay on Lake Champlain.

All pictures are thumbnails. Click on them if you want to see a bigger and better picture, under 89.5k.

Mount Mansfield is the highest peak in Vermont, with an altitude of 4,393 ft. It is visable from almost everywhere in this state, it seems. This picture was taken in the fall (notice the color in the foothills, even though it hadn't reached us in Burlington yet), about 30 seconds away from where I work. Not a bad view every morning, eh?

From the top of Mount Mansfield is a great view of the whole string of Green Mountains. If you're really good, you can probably pick out Camel's Hump from this picture. I'm not that good, so I won't be of any help to you!

Skipping to Mallets Bay, in Lake Champlain. This picture was taken from the beach where I live. I just sleep on my beach towel under my beach umbrella every night...just kidding. This is a pre-sunrise panoramic of the Bay. The water is frequently as calm as this day was. Only a few times have I seen whitecaps in the Bay, which is a big contrast from the norm on Lake Champlain. Ask me about my kayaking experience sometime...

Here's the bay the very next day, 5 minutes earlier. Amazing how things change from day to day. here you can see the color in the trees across the water very well.

I forgot the name of this waterfall, but it's on Mount Madison. If you ever want a vigorous hike in New Hampshire, try this mountain. It's in the "Presidentials" of the White Mountains, alongside other famous peaks like Sam Adams, Mount Washington, and a bunch of other mountains named after--you guessed it--presidents.

Here is the view of the White Mountains, looking west from atop Mount Madison. It's altitude is about 5,300 ft, but it definitely is worth the climb.
Here's my most favorite picture of the White Mountains. Directly front and center is Mount Washington, the highest peak in New England. It stands at 6,300+ ft, and is a big rocky mess! It's a great mountain to climb, despite all the people on the trails. To the right is Mount Sam Adams, another tall bugger, and further right of that is Sarah's knee. I left it in here for fun, and to bug her a little bit!
